Nominated by Brian Beach based on his enthusiasm for the job and for his efforts to save a victim trapped in a burning car. “Because of people like Joe, the Community of La Porte County should realize they have the best, ready to help them whenever they are in need.”

Asst. Chief Kyle Shiparski nominated Brock for demonstrating professionalism and initiative. He helped recover 26 firearms, seize 700 grams of illegal drugs and aided in 26 arrests, one while under fire from a gunman.

Ricky was nominated posthumously by several of his fellow firefighters.
He “embodied the very essence of Fire Fighter of the Year, every day.” “There was nothing more, than that guy loved, than coming to work and going on calls.”

The Day in Court Program is a cooperative effort between the Michigan City Exchange Club and Local Courts. Elementary and High School students visit criminal court and observe the workings of the Judicial System. This year, sixth grade classes from area schools visited Superior Court 1, Judge Jaime Oss. Students were asked to submit an essay detailing their experiences. Judge Oss selected the best essays. The winners received an engraved plaque, a pass to the zoo, and school sports passes for the ’25 – ’26 year.
The Day in Court Program was originated by the Michigan City Club and has been adopted by the National Exchange Club. It is practiced by hundreds of clubs, nationwide.
